Upholstery is a craft that goes far beyond simply adding a fresh layer of fabric to a chair or sofa. The process begins with stripping away the old fabric, exposing the underlying upholstery. If the inner materials are still in good condition, they might only require a layer of wadding and new fabric. However, vintage and antique furniture often reveal degraded foam or fillings, which I recommend replacing. In some cases, a complete restoration is necessary, including putting in new springs or webbing before layering everything back up. Once this foundation is restored, the new fabric is carefully applied, often enhanced with finishing touches such as piping, braid, or decorative studs.
